Yesterday was crazy. It was so crazy I only got three and a half hours of sleep afterwards. And that's a definite first for me.
Me and Nas were happily oblivious the past few days, when Athena from SSF called me and asked if I had a team for the Grand Finals.
" Huh? Got Grand Finals ah? What team? Must form team ah? "
" I didn't know! Shit."
She was making a lot of frustrated noises, and in the end she said she would get back to me later. And she hung up. There I was, in a state of utter gabra-ness, and I called Nas to share my gabra-ness with her, and then we were both gabra.
Thank God for Dualflavas knowing Nas, if not we would be stranded without a team.
So on that fateful day, a Sunday, 12th june 2005, I set off to Nas' house to do some last-minute stencils and sketches, whatever we could do. Then we went off to meet Dualflavas.
Who were an hour and a half late! So much for 12 noon!
We got so bored we made cardboard DF bling. lol if you guys want pictures go to Nas' friendster profile. See what boredom can do to you! Sad.
We were told to find our own board to spray on. Yeah, the tribulations we had to go through. But the guys were really nice, they got a board for us, they carried it around for us. I think they stole it from some Bhangla nearby or something.
We had to finish a piece in 10 freaking minutes. I was so nervous I almost pissed in my pants onstage. Had a nasty experience with aerosol fumes though. Nas was frantically stencilling all over the place while I was doing the main lettering and I was filling in the letters when I went a little too close to the board.
We all know filling in letters takes a lot of paint at one go, so of course, the fumes come out plenty too. I inhaled everything, and then Nas had to do a stencil right on top of my head and sent fuschia fumes straight up my nose and into my eyes.
I almost went blind for a second but I concentrated on finishing the damn thing. Sadly, we didn't get to finish it!!!!! I was just going to do the keyline when the music stopped and we had to get offstage. Dang.
It was such a fucking rushed job. I think that was the worst one we've ever done. I know we couldn't do much in 10 minutes but I still felt like beating myself up afterwards, which I could have done, except that I felt so fumigated I felt like passing out.
I bet we looked so stupid lah.
But Dualflavas got third, so it wasn't too bad. Am proud to be part of the pham. We are going to be official members of Da Fam soon. Wow, exciting shit, first ever real hiphop family.
Then watched the performances for the closing ceremony. I loved all of them, except for the J-Pop one, the two singing sisters and the NJC dancers.
J-Pop. Enough said. Kawaii neh!! My arse.
The two singing sisters were not that bad actually, except that they sang some stupid pop song. They should have got Taufik to sing instead.
The NJC dancers were irritating me.
Oh, there was this singing trio too, who sang a "medley of pop songs". First song, I Swear by Boys2Men, which if I'm not wrong, is an RnB song?? Which I know, is totally different from pop?? The song which Sly slaughtered to unholy death and made it "I Suay" instead.
Ya Allah.
Then they started singing that, " I'm a big, big girl in a big,big world blah blah whatever else is big " song. Oh my god! What a joke lah!
Bonafide Vintage Flav'r, Parking Lot Pimp, Richard, Dualflavas were dope!
After the whole thing, we met.....................................
Denise Keller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have no idea who she is, eat your TV and die.
We were so excited and in awe, ALMOST on the brink of hysteria but not yet hysterical.
At first she walked past me and I caught a glimpse of her face, then I was like, " Eh? Eh? EH! "
And then all of a sudden she was all cheery and everything, she actually put her arm around me and said hi, asked how I was and all that.
She is just so pretty and nice and irrepressible.
Took a whole bunch of pictures when she asked all of us to gather and take a group shot. I was wondering who was taking the photos when there were these four or five photographers suddenly standing in front of us and taking pictures.
I was like Whoa.
Still basking in her celebrity aura. I bet we all looked like jelangkungs next to her.
There was free food and drinks. We met Denise Keller.
OOh I got my cash already! 125 smackeroos in cash! 115 now, because I owed Ain 10 bucks. Now to collect my Nippon Paint voucher from Trase, probably next week. I was thinking what the heck am I going to do with a Nippon Paint voucher??
But then, everything happens for a reason so I'll just see how things go for now. No harm in stocking up on spraypaint. Maybe we could indulge in the neon or metallic colours.
Or we could try exchanging it with Mrs Kamal for cash [ Nas' idea ].
But now after mulling over it, I really don't mind getting a Nippon Paint voucher. Besides, I made a vow to myself not to eat during recess from Term 3 onwards so I can save some money for myself. Could do me some good.
People say you should take things with a pinch of salt, but I say we should take things with a tank of laughing gas - Yours truly.
